My philosophy, software is living, it should respond and collaborate with the end user. That is why I prototype with interactions and animations from the start, it truly gives a better sense of how the product will feel to the end user.

Make it clear and beautiful. I think in the terms "productive" or "expressive" based on the end users goal. Give them a clear productive space to complete a job, celebrate the completions with an expressive moment of delight.
